Technology and social media have been increasingly impacting our daily lives in recent years – in both a personal and professional sense – and health care has certainly not been exempt from this social revolution.
The influence of social media on medical education and training has been so notable, in fact, that in 2014, the inaugural Social Media (SoMe) Summit in Health Professional Education was held as a part of the International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) in Toronto, Canada. The goal of the open access consensus conference was to discuss and determine best practices in the design and use of social media in health professions education.
Now, as a result of the SoMe Summit, six provocative and informative papers have been released by the Postgraduate Medical Journal, which explore everything from quality indicators for medical education blogs and podcasts, to the professional use of social media.
