Competence by design is a revolutionary change in medical education that will lead to increased assessment. Making sense of the large volumes of assessment will require analyzing data and representing it graphically to promote feedback and learning. Learning analytics provides the tools to interpret these data and derive meaning for programs and learners.
Come learn more about how data analysis using learning analytics can help your program assist your trainees. The 2017 Learning Analytics Summit in medical education will bring together an international group of experts to review key concepts and explore important questions in this emerging field.
Over this two day course you will hear plenaries from leaders in the field, participate in interactive learning sessions with your peers and help build the community of practice that will shape the environment.
Dr. Rachel Ellaway & Dr. Stephanie Teasley
On day one of the summit, you’ll be introduced to learning analytics, with practical examples of their use for learners and training programs. In small groups, you will discuss how learning analytics can help you in your role, and later in the day, you will explore practical scenarios on how to use Analytics to help trainees reflect and and plan their learning.
You’ll end the day with a presentation from Dr. Stephanie Teasley, President of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) and Professor of Education at the University of Michigan. Dr. Teasley will speak about the use of learning analytics in higher education, taking us through her perspective and knowledge on how these are used outside of medical education.
During day two, you’ll hear from our second plenary speaker, Dr. Rachel Ellaway, Co-Director of the Office of Health and Medical Education Scholarship, University of Calgary. Dr. Ellaway has done pioneering research on the role of big data and analytics in medical education and will share her experience with promises and pitfalls in learning analytics. The summit will continue with interactive debates around using patient data and group discussions about data privacy. We will conclude the day with an exciting session that will define the key questions and future directions for learning analytics in MedEd.
