Each year, we like to celebrate an outstanding program administrator who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing residency education as evidenced by innovation and excellence beyond his/her program.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, along with the ICRE planning committee, would like to congratulate the recipient of the 2017 Program Administrator Award for Innovation and Excellence:
Ms. Sara Cover, Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Sudbury, Canada)
Ms. Sara Cover from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) in Sudbury, Canada is this year’s Program Administrator Award recipient.
Ms. Cover is the program administrator (PA) for the Anesthesiology program at NOSM, which is the newest anesthesiology residency program in Canada, and one of the first programs to transition to Competence By Design (CBD).
Building a new residency program is a challenging task, but Ms. Cover took on her role and quickly surpassed everyone’s expectations. Always several steps ahead of her colleagues, she is able to plan and organize meetings with the residency program committee throughout the academic year, plan the annual orientation week for incoming residents, the FPA bootcamp, and the CaRMs’ weekend activities.
NOSM is a unique medical school, and with that, comes unique challenges. Ms. Cover has the ability to look outside of the box and propose clever solutions to the latter, and pursue ways of achieving said solutions.
Ms. Cover’s colleagues praise the work she’s done coordinating all aspects of the creation and implementation of the anesthesiology program, and has been deemed a leader for PAs transitioning to competency based education.
Many of the residents at NOSM depend on Ms. Cover as a good listener, advocate, event coordinator, and friend. Some even say they would be lost without her.
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Cover on this wonderful honour.
